Audio Visual Technician

Position Title:  Audio Visual Technician

Description:   On site production of sound, video and live stream during worship service, and creation of edited worship video for social media

Reports to:    Minister

Exempt Status:    Contract, Non-Exempt

Hours:    Average 6 hours per week;  Sundays in person 9:30am. to 12:30pm.

Start Date:    December 1, 2021 or sooner 

Pay:     $20.00+/hour depending on experience and skills

The Audio Visual Technician runs the sanctuary AV system, records and live streams worship Sunday mornings, uploads videos to YouTube, runs presentation software, and designs digital graphics or slides as needed. Must work at  the church Sunday mornings between 9:30am and 12:30pm. The Audio Visual Technician is also responsible for setting up, operating, testing, and troubleshooting audio and video equipment as needed.

Candidate will be expected to work with existing sound and video systems, troubleshoot issues, and communicate deficiencies in the existing equipment. The candidate must  be able to work with volunteers in the AV booth who are responsible for presenting the slideshow during the service.  

Qualifications and Skills Required: 

  • Has experience mixing audio successfully in the live environment; familiarity with sound mixers such as Mackie or Yamaha a plus.
  • Familiarity with live sound reinforcement including speaker placement, microphone placement, equalization, and feedback suppression.
  • Usage of wireless microphones, frequency channels and overlaps, knowledge of microphone types, pickup patterns, and placement.
  • Will be expected to adjust camera angle and zoom throughout service.
  • Knowledge of live streaming to YouTube.
  • Ability to lightly edit videos, apply sound normalization, and publish videos on YouTube.
  • Able to work in team settings and take directions. 
  • Have good communication skills and ability to convey complicated technical issues succinctly.
  • Ability to think quickly and react/troubleshoot properly in high stress situations.

Job Description and Responsibilities:

Pre-Service 

  • Setup equipment such as microphones, sound speakers, video screen, projector, video monitors, recording equipment, connecting wires and cables,  sound and mixing boards for worship.
  • Create and share links to live streamed services. 
  • Perform proper sound system checks including gain settings, monitor mixes, proper sanctuary volume output, and eq/mixing process.
  • Test, diagnose, and correct system problems that may occur. 
  • Check with minister for any special needs for worship that morning.

During Service 

  • Responsible for adjusting sound levels during service as needed. 
  • Responsible for following minister’s and music director’s directions during services.  
  • Responsible for recording and live streaming the service. 
  • Responsible for following stage and schedule cues. 
  • Will need to adjust camera angles throughout service.
  • Responsible for providing a distraction-free service as it relates to audio production. 
  • Determine and execute filming sequences and camera movements.

Post-Service 

  • Clear stage of equipment as needed and re-organize multimedia equipment.
  • Debrief with minister, musician and/or director of music to find out if issues existed for them during worship. 
  • Note any broken/faulty equipment and take it out of service if possible. 
  • Edit and post videos online.  

As Needed or Required 

  • Clean audio and video equipment and store properly.
  • Duplicate audio and video data.
  • Train volunteers to work the AV system to cover for the AV technician’s absence.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

 

Director of Religious Education (DRE) - Half-time

Pathways Unitarian Universalist Church of Hurst, Texas (Pathways) is seeking a half-time (20 hours per week) Director of Religious Education (DRE) to provide dynamic leadership for our congregational religious education (RE) program to enrich our thriving multigenerational community.

The DRE will be responsible for implementing RE programs for all ages and organizing Sunday childcare.

Position description:
Areas of responsibility

  • Nurture relationships by communicating with the congregation, including Board, Religious Education Council, and volunteers, both on Sunday morning and during the week.
  • Collaborate with worship planners to provide intergenerational worship experiences for the congregation throughout the church year.
  • Implementing the RE budget in cooperation with Board treasurer and Board RE liaison.
  • Participate in meetings with board, RE Council, and congregation as requested.
  • Maintain relationships with colleagues in other congregations and with the wider denomination through involvement with Liberal Religious Educators Association or other similar professional organizations.
  • Represent the RE Program to the congregation and community. Communicate accomplishments and opportunities to serve.
  • Actively promote UU Principles within the congregation.

RE Programming

  • Manage all religious education programs.
  • Recruit, train, and nurture a strong core of volunteer teachers and assistants who are responsible for facilitating quality lesson plans for all classes.
  • Keep accurate records of registration, attendance, and volunteering. Provide a monthly report to the Board RE liaison.
  • Ensure a safe learning environment, working with the Board to implement and regularly review childcare and safe congregational policies.
  • Organize childcare for infants and toddlers when required. This includes supervising paid hourly workers and volunteers and coordinating with the Board to hire as needed.
  • Be present on Sunday mornings for overall administration of RE program, or designate a volunteer for that responsibility.

Qualifications

  • Relevant college courses (degree preferred) or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge, understanding, and passion for teaching about Unitarian Universalism to children, youth, and families
  • Demonstrated leadership and team building skills and ability to work independently
  • Strong organization and relational skills, including conflict management
  • Ability to use verbal and written communication effectively across all constituencies
  • Understanding of multiculturalism, anti-oppression, and anti-racism within Unitarian Universalism and the wider community
  • Basic proficiency in the use of Excel and Word for reporting
  • Background check required

Projected start date: November 1, 2021

Salary:  $17,000

Hours: 20 hours per week, 12 months per year with 2 weeks PTO (Paid Time Off)

Reports to:  Pathways Board of Trustees

  • An average of 75 people attended Sunday morning services previous to the Covid pandemic.
  • We averaged 15 children and youth in our Sunday morning RE programs each week before the pandemic.

Summary:
Nursery Caregivers are responsible for the safety, care, and comfort of children ages 0-3 during Sunday
services and for children ages 0-14 for special events.

• Provide childcare for infants and children on Sunday mornings from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. by:
o observing safety procedures at all time
o overseeing free play on equipment and with toys, ensuring that this is done safely
o providing care and comforting children as needed

o changing diapers
o providing information and reassurance to parents as needed
o help to ensure that the Nursery is clean and inviting
