Summary: The Director of Communications strategically manages a variety of promotional and
communications tools for the congregation and maintains consistency of the church’s brand.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Develop and implement annual and long-term communications calendaring and planning for church programs, worship, and special events.
• Create and manage weekly communication (DU Weekly), maintaining the mailing lists in Constant Contact.
• Create graphic and digital designs with consistent branding that conveys the church’s story and our progressive mission and values.

o Create content for all communication platforms – print and digital
o Create content for all-church events, classes, and programs
o Create Orders of Service for special services e.g. Christmas Eve, Maundy Thursday,
ordinations and installations, Pageant Sunday, etc.

• Manage the church’s social media presence.
• Manage church website and outside service providers.
• Support stewardship communication and design deliverables (pledge cards and letters,
testimonials).
• Advise ministers, staff, and volunteers in maintaining a consistent brand across the activities of the
church.
• Collaborate with the ministers to identify and cultivate opportunities for the church’s staff and
members to be seen and known in public settings.

Job Description:
The Music Director is the professional staff leader directing the music program in consultation with the minister to ensure a meaningful worship experience.

Responsibilities
● Supports the church as a whole by directing program administration in support of our mission and vision.
● Communicates with the minister to help develop a weekly worship service.
● Supervises the accompanist and volunteer musicians.
● Communicates with, organizes, and directs the choir.
● Rehearses weekly with the choir for Sunday worship.
● Communicates with the congregation about music and opportunities to be involved.
● Directs the choir on Sunday mornings, and leads congregation in hymn singing.
● Arranges for music on Sundays when the choir is not singing.
● Collaborates on special music worship services.
● Stewards the music budget and ensures proper allocation of resources.
● Organizes all elements of music to support weekly worship services.
● Monitors music licenses and copyrights to ensure fair use of music in our church.
● Supervises, schedules, and coordinates instrumental music with our accompanist and any guest musicians.
● Coordinates with other ministries of the church to engage people of all ages in music.
● Meets weekly with the minister and the staff.

Qualifications
● A Bachelor's degree or commensurate experience in a music-related field, particularly conducting or choral.
● Excellent communication skills and at least two years’ experience leading a choir of congregational musicians with mixed ability levels. Ability to play one or more instruments is a positive.
● Ability to pass a background check.
● Knowledge of Unitarian Universalism a plus, but not necessary.

Position Details
● Part time at 10 hrs a week from September to June and then 6 hrs a week for July and August.
● Annual compensation commensurate with experience.
● Two weeks paid vacation during July or August.
● Professional development expenses provided up to $1,400/yr.

Religious Education Coordinator (Quarter Time)

Pathways Unitarian Universalist Church of Hurst, Texas (Pathways) is seeking a quarter-time (10 hours per week) Religious Education Coordinator (REC) to provide dynamic leadership for our children’s and youth religious education (RE) programs.

Position description:

  • Responsible for teaching most Sundays from 9:30am – 12:45pm

  • Recruit, train, and nurture a core of volunteer teachers and assistants who are responsible for facilitating quality lesson plans for all classes.

  • Manage children’s and youth’s religious education programs. Planning for up to three classrooms based on age and developmental ability.

  • Ensure a safe learning environment, working with the Board to implement and regularly review childcare and safe congregational policies.

  • Communicate with the congregation, including Board, Religious Education Council, and volunteers, both on Sunday morning and during the week.

  • Collaborate with worship planners to provide a minimum of 2 multigenerational worship experiences for the congregation throughout the church year.

  • Implementing the RE budget in cooperation with Board treasurer and Board RE liaison.

  • Participate in meetings with board, RE Council, and congregation as requested.

  • Maintain relationships with colleagues in other congregations.

  • Represent the RE Program to the congregation and community. Communicate accomplishments and opportunities to serve.

  • Actively promote UU Principles within the congregation.

  • Keep accurate records of registration, attendance, and volunteering. Provide a monthly report to the Board RE liaison which includes detailed description of hours worked that month.

Qualifications:

  • Relevant college courses or equivalent experience

  • Background check required

  • Current first-aid/CPR certification or completion of certification paid for by Pathways

  • Knowledge, understanding, and passion for teaching about Unitarian Universalism to children, youth, and families

  • Demonstrate leadership and team building skills and ability to work independently

  • Strong organization and relational skills, including conflict management

  • Understanding of multiculturalism, anti-oppression, and anti-racism within Unitarian Universalism and the wider community

  • Preferred that the applicant live within 15 miles of Pathways Church

Projected start date: As soon as possible

Salary: $750/month, Pay issued on the 15th and last day of each month

Hours: 10 hours per week, 12 months per year with 2 weeks total of Paid Time Off

Position description:

Job responsibilities:

  • The primary duty is to provide childcare during Common Ground and during the discussion group hour
  • Ages of children in nursery range from 3 months through 5 years of age
  • Firm adherence to the check-in and dismissal process for each child attending the nursery
  • Operate a walkie-talkie for communication and adherence to safety procedures required
  • Represent Pathways to the congregation and community
  • Notify of sickness or required absence to designated RE Council contact ahead of 8:30 am on Sundays
  • Report hours and attendance to designated RE supervisor

Qualifications:

  • Background check required
  • Show proof of CPR/First Aid certification or receive same training paid for by Pathways
  • Preferred that the applicant live within 15 miles of Pathways Church

Projected start date: As soon as possible

Pay: Pay rate of $15/hour. Additional hours if applicable will be paid at a rate of $15/hour. Pay issued weekly.

Hours: 3 hours per week, 9:45am – 12:45pm Sundays. In the case of no children in nursery, CP may be asked to assist in activities with older children

Summary:
Nursery Caregivers are responsible for the safety, care, and comfort of children ages 0-3 during Sunday
services and for children ages 0-14 for special events.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Provide childcare for infants and children on Sunday mornings from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. by:
o observing safety procedures at all time
o overseeing free play on equipment and with toys, ensuring that this is done safely
o providing care and comforting children as needed
o providing bottles of milk brought from home as requested
o changing diapers
o providing information and reassurance to parents as needed
o help to ensure that the Nursery is clean and inviting
Other Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Providing childcare outside of Sunday mornings for special events held at the church or off site for: trainings,
annual events and meetings, interest or affiliation group events, and others as your schedule permits

Qualifications:
• Verifiable history of providing dependable and reliable care to infants and/or children
• Ability to interface with a diverse population of children, teens, and adults.
